Different Kinds Of Gardens

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When it comes to flowers, gardening , and plants the rule applies.

I love the beauty and smell of natural flowers and plants, but I also see the beauty in a artificial garden and flowers if it is well landscaped or arranged.

They are less maintenance and there beauty does not wilt nor are they eaten by insects. I wonder if you can mix the two and create something beautiful? Think about it.

Simple Care Of Cut Flowers

Receiving a basket or bouquet of flowers is a very nice feeling. It lets you know that someone cares and is thinking of you. Now the question is "how do you care for your floral basket or your bouquet? The best way is to know what types of flowers you have received, since each flower is different.

However, if you can not identify the flowers, follow a general rule of watering your floral basket every 3-4 days. Make sure you feel soil. to prevent drowning them. Those in a vase, change the water every 2-3 days, cutting the stems a little at a slant. Hopefully this technique will keep your flowers longer.

Cutting Fresh Flowers

How beautiful is a bouquet of fresh cut flowers with different colors and types. It gives the house a sense of beauty and peace. Do you know why people tell you to always cut the bottom of the stem at a diagonal and not straight across?

The reason, I found out, is to expose more stem area so that the flower can suck in more water and stay fresh and alive longer. You probably say "everyone knows that". Not true. How many persons have you seen reach for a knife or scissor and cut straight across the stem of the flower?

I was one of them until now. Now I am very careful of how I care for my fresh flowers. Also remember to cut with a very sharp knife or scissor to avoid hurting the stem.

Gift Cards Hidden Fees

Do you enjoy giving gift cards from florists or major credit cards? Be very careful and tell the recipients to use the card as soon as possible. Reason being that there might be hidden charges for balances on the card after the time limit. I was not aware of this until a friend told me that Visa was charging $2.50 per month for a balance on her gift card.

I thought she was joking until I read the fine print on the back of the card and I mean fine print. I had to use a magnifying glass to read it. So please make it a habit to read all the fine print. You will be surprise at hidden fees charged.

Spanish Moss And Trees

Do you have Spanish Moss on your trees? I do and I hate it. Spanish Moss is a non-parasitic plant or herb that uses trees as a host to grow but does not rub the tree of its nutrients, according to the University of Florida.

Question: If they do not rub the trees of their food, what is destroying my beautiful trees? Indirectly the moss is killing them. They are so prolific that they actually suffocate the leaves causing them to die.

The moss also increases the weight on the branches causing them to break and die. It seems that even, if some how you can get rid of the moss, it has the potential of coming back. The culprit is the wind. Do you get the feeling that you are fighting a losing battle?

Gulf Of Mexico Reefs In Peril From Oil Spill

The oil spill continues to create havoc. This time it is menacing the Coral and Oyster reefs in the Gulf of Mexico. The reefs extend from Stuart, in the Atlantic Ocean, to the Dry Tortugas, which are located west of Key West in the Gulf of Mexico. Everyone knows how fragile the Coral and Oyster reefs are.

The question is how can they be protected from that crude oil? Also, once destroyed, can they be restored to it beauty, since the Coral Reef is a living organism, as well as the Oyster Reef?

I keep praying that oil spill problem can be resolved very soon. We are losing millions of gallons of crude oil a day and the environmental destruction is beyond belief. Keep praying a miracle happens
